[Bug] WinVICE: Copying to clipboard sometimes crashes VICE

SYMPTOMS

Trying to copy to the clipboard, sometimes VICE crashes without any further notice.

CAUSE

There is a bug in VICE in how a mouse-marked area is processed. Whenever you mark just one line in the console and the mouse is more to the top at the right side than it was on the left side, this results in wrong coordinates for the copy, which itself doesn't assume wrong coordinates, and consequently just crashes.

SOLUTION

Use a newer version of WinVICE.

STATUS

The VICE team has confirmed this to be a bug in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article. It has been corrected in all subsequent versions
