[Bug] Unix VICE 1.20/1.21 crashes/segfaults using `vsid' or `x64 -vsid'
The information in this article applies to the following versions of VICE:
- version 1.20 and 1.21 on Linux
PROBLEMEXPOSITION
In VICE 1.21 with Gnome support, the standalone sid emulator `vsid' or `x64 -vsid' crashes during startup. In the Unix ports of VICE 1.20 and the other Unix user interface of VICE 1.21 (Xaw), `vsid' works as expected unless you try to set a different `Video standard'.
CAUSE
The cause for the start crash of VICE 1.21 with Gnome is known. The real cause for the other crash is still investigated on.
SOLUTION
A workaround is available.
WORKAROUND
Use the two provided patches patch 1 and patch 2 before compiling VICE 1.21.
STATUS
The VICE team has confirmed this to be a problem in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article. It has been corrected in all subsequent versions.
