[Bug] x64/x128 REU emulation is broken with VICE 1.15
The information in this article applies to the following versions of VICE:
- VICE 1.15
SYMPTOMS
In fact, there are two different problems with this:
- If you use the REU emulation on x64 or x128, your program will most probably quit silently, or the operating system will output an error message and quit the emulator.
- If you try to enable the REU emulation, you get the message "Ressource IO2 blocked by REU".
CAUSE
These are two unrelated bugs which affect the REU emulation. While you have to wait for a newer version of VICE to fix the former, there is a workaround for the second available: Whenever you change REU settings, disable the REU, and re-enable it afterwards (instead of letting it be enabled all the time). Anyway, as the REU emulation is worthless in the VICE 1.15 release, this workaround does not help you either.
SOLUTION
Wait for a new version of VICE, or use an older one (1.14 or before).
STATUS
The VICE team has confirmed this to be a bug in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article. It has been corrected in all subsequent versions
