[Info] WinVICE complains about missing DINPUT.DLL
The information in this article applies to the following versions of VICE:
- all Windows versions
When trying to start an emulator, you get the error message "missing dinput.dll".
WinVICE needs DirectX, at least version 3 from Microsoft to work on the windows plattform. While DirectX is part of most Windows plattforms, this is not true for some early Windows plattforms (Windows 95, for example).
There are two possibilities. Since DirectX is part of most Windows games, you can either
- Install a game which itself needs DirectX; or
- Go to Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp) and download DirectX from there.
This document is for information purpose only. The behaviour reported is intentional in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article.
