[Info] Starting VICE, you get a message telling you "Load Error: No DPMI - get csdpmi*b.zip"
The information in this article applies to the following versions of VICE:
- all MS-DOS versions
EXPOSITION
When you run VICE for DOS, you get a message telling you
- Load Error: No DPMI - get csdpmi*b.zip
INFO
VICE for DOS works in a special 32 bit environment. Natively, DOS only supports 16 bit, so you need a server for that special environment. This server is called a DPMI server, which you need to install first.
SOLUTION
Get a DPMI server. There are more than one possibility to do so:
- Windows itself is a DPMI server. Whenever you run VICE for DOS under a windows environment, you won't need a stand-alone DPMI server.
- Get a DPMI server from http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/editors/jed/misc/csdpmi/csdpmi3b.zip and install that one.
STATUS
This document is for information purpose only. The behaviour reported is intentional in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article, and it is included in the VICE documentation.
