[Info] VICE (Gnome) fails to build on newer Linux distributions
The information in this article applies to the following versions of VICE:
- all Unix versions of VICE compiled with GNOME support
PROBLEMEXPOSITION
If you try to compile VICE/GNOME on your Linux distribution, it may fail to compile.
CAUSE
VICE/Gnome requires Gnome 1.x and Gtk 1.x. Those toolkits are not installed by default on recent Linux distributions (e.g. Fedora Core 3). However, the distributions provide the necessary libraries typically on their installation CD/DVDs for separate installation.
SOLUTION
Install the development versions of GNOME and GTK in their 1.x incarnations.
STATUS
This document is for information purpose only. The behaviour reported is intentional in the VICE versions listed at the beginning of this article.
